We seek a proven Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) to manage projects and support our projects that require a CIH and work with leadership to grow our S&H Consulting team. We are recruiting for a CIH for work within a 50 mile radius of Richland, WA.

This role includes being a seller-doer role with broad management responsibilities and overseeing a wide array of NV5 client projects. The successful candidate will have an industry reputation to successfully grow projects and client relationships.


The Certified Industrial Hygienist will have a passion for the Safety and Industrial Hygiene (IH) field to help our clients achieve success in the health and safety of their operations.

  • Generate health & safety revenue by developing new clients and markets as well as leveraging existing clients and company talent.
  • Set and meet sales goals
  • Assist clients with their health & safety programs, including responding to enforcement actions.
  • Develop and oversee Health and Safety programs.
  • Help industrial clients meet current and anticipated regulatory requirements.
  • Audit health & safety compliance to support senior-level assessments of industrial operations and commercial property.
  • Interface with client health & safety staff, provide support to service operations, and review reporting as it relates to compliance.
  • Provide IH support in various topical areas
  • Provide support for the field implementation of IH monitoring and sampling requirements and maintain a strong field presence in project activities.
  • Participate in critiques, incident investigations, and corrective action management; prepare written industrial hygiene and safety reports, correspondence and communication. Assist in integration of Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) /Voluntary Protection Program (VPP); support implementation of 10 CFR 851.
  • Provide support to the company in Safety and IH management requirements.
  • Develop and implement effective and efficient methods for controlling and eliminating occupational health hazards.
  • Provide input/interface into the job hazard analysis processes and performs exposure monitoring as required.
  • Provide support to Plan of the Day meetings, communicating IH hazards related to the job.
  • Communicate both area and employee exposure monitoring results to the project and employees.
  • Provide beryllium and IH training to IH’s and IH Technicians.
  • Potential responsibilities of this position are:
    • Perform technical operational safety and health reviews and inspections to determine deficiencies that require corrective action, reports results, and recommends corrective actions.
    • Review and interpret national, federal, and local safety standards, manuals, reports and other formal written communications and develops institutional and/or local requirements and guidance.
    • Evaluate work activities, designs, develops, implements and recommends safety and health protective equipment and risk mitigation or abatement controls.
    • Review plans, designs and specifications for operations and facilities to identify proper hazard controls.
    • Provide recommended engineering controls to project personnel.
    • Work independently to develop, maintain, implement and supervise IH programs and services.
    • Assure customer implementation of work management by gaining an understanding of operations, assisting with the development and review of work documents and associated operating procedures to ensure hazards are appropriately identified and controlled, participating in pre-job walk-downs prior to commencement of work, and conducting periodic safety and health inspections to ensure compliance with applicable safety and health requirements.
    • Provide on-The-Job training to peers in support of the industrial hygiene and safety qualification program.
    • Develop hazardous materials communications.
    • Write technical reports based on the interpretation of complex data, observations, and current regulations.
    • Provide leadership to less experienced IH professionals and technicians.


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience performing IH monitoring and sampling.
  • 5 years of experience performing environmental remediation activities, including work in radiologically and chemically contaminated soils and/or facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety and health, or applied science relevant to Industrial Hygiene or Safety.
  • Certification recognized by the Board of Safety Professionals or American Board of Industrial Hygienists (ABIH)
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • Certification recognized by the Board of Safety Professionals highly desirable. This includes Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), and Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
    • DOE and/or Hanford Site experience.
    • Experience implementing a beryllium program.
    • Professional experience in health and safety consulting and/or working in health & safety at a facility or plant
    • Business development and sales experience highly desired

  • Working Conditions
    • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
    • The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures typically below 32°F for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
    • The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100°F for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
    • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
    • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

Physical Requirements
Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
